As we head into the July Fourth weekend, we want to share that earlier today, President Biden announced that Raul Yzaguirre born July 22, 1939, former President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza (now UnidosUS), will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States. Following the White House announcement, UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía noted:
“Today we are so proud, honored, and moved that our President Emeritus Raul Yzaguirre will receive our nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for his decades of distinguished and tireless service to his country and to his community.
“Raul is a visionary who understood that we must both celebrate the unique differences within the Latino community and unite behind collective goals to achieve progress. He made this vision a reality during his 30 years at the helm of the National Council of La Raza (now UnidosUS) …. In his tenure, NCLR became a key player in lifting up the Hispanic community and was responsible for countless policy changes on issues such as education, homeownership, immigration, healthcare, and workforce development that have had a profound impact on millions of people, including Latinos.”
Join us in honoring Raul Yzaguirre by making a gift to UnidosUS, ensuring that his legacy and hard work continues to remove barriers so Latinos can reach their fullest potential.
Because of Raul’s tireless efforts and commitment, UnidosUS stands strong in our nation’s capital just four blocks from the White House as a symbol of hope and a testament of the resiliency of the Latino community.
Your gift is your commitment to Raul’s vision, the vision of UnidosUS, of an America in which economic, political, and social progress is a reality for all Latinos. Thank you in advance for your support!
